Today, Thursday 9th February, is officially recognised in the UK as National Pizza Day! What better excuse is there to consume one of the most popular food items in the world. Many food outlets realise the importance customers place on a good pizza with more and more establishments reverting to more traditional methods such as wood fired ovens to offer a unique taste experience.
The first pizzas made were in fact sweet, not savoury, but nowadays over 60% of pizzas consumed have some form of meat topping. The most popular topping in the UK is Pepperoni and according to statistics Oxford is the city in the UK which consumes the most pizza. It’s estimated that over 5 Billion Pizzas are sold worldwide every year, although over half of these are consumed in the US!
